2017 Highs, Lows, Ups, and Downs

When 2017 started I was pretty sure it was going to be the end of PerformanceICreate.  It had been a tough 2016 and I was not sure if I wanted to continue with it. In fact, I was pretty sure I did not. This website was started by Chris Ponder, not me. A few years ago, he turned it over to me because he was simply burnt out on managing the writers, the content, the daily grind of content management. I didn’t get it at first but after taking over, I got it. Oh boy did I get it.

It’s a tough job and since our contributors weren’t paid, it was a passion pay – its hard to get people to do their best for free, damn near impossible.

Anyway,  as 2017 went on, I was starting to be more and more certain that this was over at the end of the year. Then the month of August happened. I won’t rehash it, I have written about it here.

After that happened, it was kind of like a marriage situation. Have you ever cheated on your spouse? Scratch that, have you ever done something that almost cost you your marriage and if not for forgiveness and support it would have all been lost? It’s kinda like that. I had something great and almost lost it all because I was taking it for granted.

Like a great boxer who gets the shit knocked out of him in round 8, I had to stumble to my feet. I did not get up alone, I had a great cut man or in this case a great cut woman, Melissa Fairman, who stopped the bleeding, stitched up the cuts and said, “You gotta get back out there!”

And just like a dazed and confused boxer, I looked at my corner, and found the faces of people who supported me, supported PIC. With that, I got back up, dusted myself off and begin to claim my title, as the only person out here who constantly tries to provide a diverse alternative solution to the mundane noise in the HR bloggersphere.

PIC is the only place where good writers (of all sexes, races, preferences, cultures, and beliefs) can write about anything they want without fear of being muted, filtered, toned down, or altered. The only place where you can be you!

We don’t have themes, we don’t have tags, we don’t care about of the following barriers:

  1. SEO
  2. Using the seo statement in the top, middle and end of posts
  3. link backs or pingbacks
  4. pictures or images
  5. minimum or maximum length
  6. sponsorship rules and editing standards

If you are real writer, you know what I am talking about. We are free and the most dangerous thing in the world is a person who has nothing to lose and is totally free. Freedom scares some people and it intimidates others.

75% of 2017 sucked because I was not free but this last quarter has been simply amazing and I owe of lot of that to being knocked down.

So now I have to thank the new Content Creators of PIC2.0 aka The Defiant Ones for picking me up.

Heather Kinzie, Heather Bussing, Victorio Milian, Rayanne Thorn,  Dave Ryan, Tim Gardner, Torin Ellis, Phidelia Johnson, Janelle Rodriguiz, Sojourner Simone, Susan Behan, Alexander Nevermind and of course my right hand woman, Melissa Fairman.

Let’s get after it in 2018!
