Never been a fan of “The Biggest Loser” on NBC, but last year I was watching it and they have added a new trainer – this guy name Dolvett. He’s a beast just like Bob, the old trainer. They work those folks like a rented donkey. At any rate, Dolvett is laying it on thick; barking instructions until that vein in his neck is about to burst. One of the guys accepts the challenges and even takes it further, longer and harder.
Dolvett asks for 90 seconds of running at top speed, the one guy goes longer. Dolvett demands 10 push-up, this dude gives him 20. He demands jumping jacks and this guy gives him more. This dude is in a zone. Dolvett notices this and says “Leaders lead baby, leaders lead.” Isn’t that just like a leader; they lead by example and let their actions define them.
There are no shortage of leadership articles, blog posts and books. Google the word and there are hundreds of millions of results. There are as many examples of good and bad leadership as there people in the world. Most people consider themselves leaders in some form. Even at home you have that person that leads and make decisions and accepts the challenges of the day.
Actions speak louder words.
A title does not make you a leader. What you do and how you do it makes you a leader. Attitude, work ethic, decision making (knowledge & vision) are all indicators of leadership.
True leadership is simple, Leaders …
- Accept challenges
- Push further and harder
- Ask why not?
- Conquer fears
- Set the tone
- Make more good decisions than bad ones
- Learn from the bad decisions
Leaders lead baby, leaders lead.
